Is Mary your MP?
Mary can only take up issues or concerns on behalf of people who live in the constituency as there is a strict Parliamentary protocol in place that forbids one MP acting on behalf of another's constituents. How can Mary help?
Mary Macleod is the MP for Brentford, Chiswick, Osterley, Isleworth and Hounslow and is available to help and advise her constituents on specific problems. Many people think that their MP can solve all their concerns. This is not the case and there are instances where contacting an MP may result in a query taking longer to resolve if the issue in question is not their responsibility. MPs can only help with those matters for which Parliament or central government are responsible.
In many cases involving local issues, your local councillor will be best placed to deal with your issue as they work at the heart of local government on your behalf. To find out who your local councillors are click here and enter your postcode.
What can Mary do?
Mary sometimes adds her voice to support legitimate complaints but ultimately, matters concerning local authorities are usually better dealt with by the local authority itself.
Mary can help you with all matters for which Parliament or central government is responsible. She can write a letter to the relevant department or official; write a letter to the Minister involved; attempt to ascertain the reasons behind decisions; appeal on behalf of an individual or community; speak to relevant authorities on your behalf.
Mary must be contacted by the person who is experiencing the problem themselves. If you are concerned on behalf of another person, such as a friend or relative, please encourage them to contact her directly.
Are there any cases where Mary cannot help?
Mary cannot:
• intervene in live court cases
• offer legal advice
• settle private disputes with neighbours or employers or formally support a planning application
• help in family arguments
